Sudan 3, Canada 2 - 2012 Semifinals

This game was super intense and had a finish that I'm still having trouble believing. Totally back-and-forth and very evenly matched. The first half was a little boring because both teams played so solidly on defense. There were really only two good chances in the half - one for each squad. The first good chance was for Canada with 16 minutes remaining. Ian Labatte continued his stellar tournament with a volley from 15 yards out that just missed the top corner. A minute later Sudan got a great chance when the defender, #10, cracked a shot from the same distance that smoked the crossbar and bounced away. The first half finished 0-0.
Sudan got its first goal two minutes into the second half. Jarvis was dribbling in the middle and he uncharacteristically turned it over. Sudan quickly countered and Tong Tong beat one defender before slipping it past Waller for a 1-0 lead. With 15 minutes left a nearly identical scenario happened and it looked like Sudan would capitalize again, however this time Jarvis was back and managed to break up the 3 on 1. With 9 minutes remaining Sudan went up 2-0 on a corner kick. Waller managed a nice save off of the initial header, but the ball rebounded down and a little guy for Sudan made a diving header that went into the corner. Really nice goal.
The game kind of looked over after the second goal. Canada couldn't get anything going on offense and Sudan started its time-wasting routine. Game slowed down to a crawl. With less than two minutes to play Dave Morley crossed in a ball from the side into the box and Chris Traweger got his head on it. The ball defelected just enough that it handcuffed Noor and went in the net. Suddenly Canada had life, even if there didn't seem to be any time to get another. About a minute later Jarvis got the ball about 20 yards out and was facing the Sudanese defensive shell. He beats his guy and shoots, but the ball gets blocked in the box. The rebound comes to Steve Galan at the top of the area who fires first time and the ball is deflected by a defender and goes into the back of the net. Tie game and we're going to overtime! Or are we?
Less than 30 seconds after the goal (how it wasn't the end of the game I have no idea) Sudan got a free kick on the sideline 5 yards in its own half. The long ball goes into the Canada box and players from both teams go up for it. Ball hits the Canadian defenders head, takes a slight deflection and goes into the bottom corner of the Canada net. 3-2 Sudan and that was it folks.

First off no one cares about the womens final. Ukraine vs. Germany for womens again ... like come on. Boring, slow paced, crappy socer.

Secondly, Braden these write ups are great buddy. People don't give you enough credit and seem to always make fun of you, but for once these in depth write ups are dead on and very good. If I missed the game, I would feel like I never missed it.

Good job, and don't let fools like Julio and Riggs bring ya down. Those other useless blogs write ups have been useless and the guys updating them have been lazy and slow.

I'm impressed and you've gained some respect in my books. This blog also has some interesting things to discuss and not all this crap about strippers etc. like the other blogs.

When Braden writes about anything other than Norway his blog is excellent. I'm not sure if his opinion is distorted or he puts on a facade to get in opponents heads, but a couple things he wrote about Norway and ES were a little ridiculous.

By calling him dufus and calling him out on his ridiculousness I was simply attempting to do him a favor and help him see how ridiculous he sounds at times. As I stated, ES still had a chance to make playoffs and win the group and we did it. Anything can happen and claiming a 1/4 final slot after one win is getting carried away (unless you are too and just beat Sudan).

Braden is a good guy, writes great blogs (if Norway isn't involved) and is actually a much better player than I would gave guessed. We always say hi and have gotten along for years and sure there are no hard feelings. It's a blog and it's fun to call people out, then you go watch a game and have a beer together. That's what playing adult soccer And blogging is all about.

Riggs I have to say it cause someone will eventually ... you're not that good ... and thank god you won't make the cabaret cause I would be beaking you hard, especially about how bad your ES team is. You lost to Italy, ha ha and couldn't even make the semi-finals. What a bust and a joke. Your friend Julio blew it too. Isn't he supposed to be this amazing defender. Yeah right, 4th place ROI finish, which never happens ever. That tells me one thing, the picks up they got this year suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anon 12:22; did you not watch the third place game? Julio is wasted as a defender. If I were running ROI, I would play Julio on the wing all day. I don't think Canada was able to stop him once. Tavis and Julio on the same team would be a treat for fans who like to see skills and flashy footwork.
I enjoyed seeing both Tavis and Julio dribble and embassy defenders with ease.

I wish people would actually talk to these people before commenting. You sound like hateful fools. I would consider myself a friend of Alvaro's, rigg's, and even dufus'. These are all great guys if you talk to them. They make the blogs entertaining, and are good players, no matter what anyone says. Beauties to party with. All I really have to say at this point of the tournament. Hoping to survive another WCP finals weekend bender with these guys !

OH MA GOD!!! Anon would beak me at the cabaret?? The nameless, butlers wonder??? Dayumm!!

Just curious, by beaking me and Julio at the cabaret do you mean you will come there and most likely follow us around and stare at us (since you are obviously jealous of us and possibly in love)? Then when we least it expect it..... BAM!!! You go in a nice dark corner, pull out your little iPhone and proceed to beak us relentlessly under the super intimidating name "anonymous."

Jeez Louise I'm sure darn lucky I don't gave to be put through that.

Ps I did party with Aleks the other night And he seems like a nice kid. Get to know people, come out of the dark shadows, shake our hand, have a convo, have a beer. Not many bad people in soccer once you get to know them off the field.

Julio sucks. That was a fake Aleks post. I didn't post it. I don't like Julio and I would never praise him. Get real.

Lol Anon 3:40. aka Alvaro posting anonymously to hype himself.

Julio beating defenders with ease? hilarious. When Tavis uses some flashy footwork it usually has purpose in beating a defender. when alvaro uses flashy footwork it is mostly pointless. i saw him do a step over when there wasnt anyone within 10 yards of him haha.

If Alvaro spent as much time on the pitch just playing simple football as he does trying to look good he would be much better for it.

Tavis is a much, much better attacking player than alvaro is. Comparing them at all is pointless.
