Afghanistan 6, Northern Ireland 0

Northern Ireland played OK defense for a while but they were outclassed from the outset. Afghanistan had a way better midfield and NI couldn't string together more than a few passes before the inevitable giveaway. Afghanistan didn't get many chances in the first half, but were still up 2-0. In the second half Northern Ireland completely fell apart and Afghanistan easily scored a bunch of goals. The Saskatoon striker for Afghanistan ended up with four goals and they were all nice.

I think NI should play rugby or hockey, there all horrible players

Josip was a great pick up for them. He's one of the best finishers in the tournament

I agree with the first poster. NI would be better equipped for rugby with their overly physical play. Not a fun team to watch at all in a soccer game.

Jay Tomchuck, Brett Bachelu, and Brett Levis have been non existant in this tournament. I don't see the hype about these guys. Not worth mentioning. It's a regina tournament. Come on. Are they getting paid to play no. Who cares about these guys. There are a ton of players out there never getting named. Give me a friggin break. Soccer is a team sport not some individual game. You want to name drop go play ping pong or something.

K. Brett Bachelu isn't playing because he's injured, Bret Levi isn't playing because he has other committments and Jay Tomchuk has been the best player for a very good Poland team. I get your point, but gotta do your research for it to have the same impact.

Thank you so much for that comment. When Afghan played against Jamaica, I came to this blog and wrote that Afghan team is up there with the best and people listed names like ROI, Sudan, Poland, France, Laos etc being way ahead of Afghan. When the Afghan #9 scored in the second half against Jamaica, i knew this is a natural finisher...with his back to goal, he pushed the ball to the right and turned quickly to shoot(low and hard) with his left and picked his angle very well....don't get me wrong, I Play for one of the aforementioned contenders in the tournament and have no affiliation with Afghan footie whatsoever but I know when a see a gem of a player! This is what Afghan lacked in their first game!

Hahahaha both Bretts are non-existent in this tournament that they aren't even playing in!? There are some real geniuses on this blog.

Tomchuck scored a goal over the keeper with the back of his freakin head, He's has to be on anyone's top 5 player list.

No one has discredited the players you have mentioned, just saying that this Afghan guy from Saskatoon is up there with the top finishers should not make you throw a fit...sound discussions with good reasoning makes for a grown-up way of game analysis...but i guess not everyone has that capability!

@anon 4:23 exactly true nobody have discredited those boys but this guy has something to offer, he is one of the top finishers, left and right he demolishes.

The Afghan player is better than all those duds listed above especially Jay Tomchuck. Another overrated idiot in this tournament. Go Afghan.
