Time to Get Serious

Now that I'm back from Hawaii it's time to get serious about the WCP Cup again. I'm sure every team has been following a strict fitness plan, so now its time to kick mine into full gear. Time to cut back on beer and fast food and instead only drink hard alcohol and eat Subway. The sacrifices will be difficult, but its been five years since Norway won the championship and I'm all about the team. No pain, no game. I'm going to start considering possibly following that motto.

Its also almost time to start scrutinizig rosters. There are plenty of rumours afloat about who is on which team, but I'm thinking I'll give it another week before I start posting any real predictions.

In the meantime, I'm going to start a Twitter feed with the sole purpose of posting game updates during the tournament. I appreciate drunk texts just as much as the next person.

Since I'm incredibly indecisive, I'll post a poll as to what my Twitter handle should be.

2012 WCP Cup - Norway Schedule

The Norway Schedule for 2012 WCP Cup is:

Sat Mar 31 - 9 p.m. vs Greece
Sat Apr 7 - 10 p.m. vs France
Mon Apr 9 - 7:30 p.m. vs Italy
Sun Apr 15 - 9 p.m. vs El Sal
Mon Apr 16 - 8:30 p.m. vs S. Korea

Quick thoughts:
  • Benefit of being in the toughest group is the number of prime time games. We've got three.
  • Probably the most favourable schedule in the group. Get our tough games with lots of rest time before, and get our easy games right after
  • We play France when they have only two days rest and El Salvador the day after they play France.
  • First game against Greece will let us know where we stand. Can't have a let-down and allow them to sneak out some points like they did against France in 2011.
  • I'm optimistic. This is a very winnable situation and should result in another playoff berth.

Norway Exhibiton - Sunday 10 a.m.

Got an exhibition game happening this Sunday at 9 a.m. at the soccer centre. I sound foolish saying this, but I have no idea who we're playing.

So far the Norway team is basically assembled and the final roster will come down to if certain Saskatoon players will be available for games or not.

2012 WCP Cup Schedule Delayed for Second Time

The WCP Cup 2012 schedule release has been delayed for a second time. It is now supposed to come out on February 12th.

Originally, the schedule was to be ready at the beginning of January. That date got pushed back to February 8th. Apparently there are many requests by teams not wanting to play at certain times and this is causing problems.

That Time of Year Again

When I woke up today I felt like I could run through a brick wall. Why? It’s February 1st – approximately two months before the start of WCP Cup 2012 and the opening of blogging season.

I was planning on starting the discussion by posting the schedule for the 2012 tournament. Remember way back when the schedule was going to be released in January? Well we’re not quite there yet. However, the new release date is now February 8th, so only one week to go.

It’s still early, rosters are being set and fundraisers are in full swing. If anyone wants me to write about anything – and I mean anything – shoot me an email and I’ll rip something up.

Tournament prices, key game days and juicy matchups are already planned so give me a heads-up if there is something truly unique you want discussed.

Commenting Guidelines

A few quick and easy rules to follow if you want to keep your comments on the blog...

1. Don’t be racist, sexist, fascist or post anything in overly bad-taste.
2. Don’t be over-the-top harsh on specific people. If you criticize, back it up with relevant evidence.
3. Don’t call out anonymous posters unless you’re willing to post your own name.
4. Don’t troll the comments section. Make your point and then let other people make theirs.
5. Keep it short and sweet. If you want to post something long get your own blog.
6. Don’t post links without asking permission.
7. Don’t mention anything about people’s personal lives unless it is 100% relevant to the tournament.
8. Don’t impersonate other people. It’s crude and unfunny.
9. Back up rumours with evidence of where you heard it.
10. Don’t bash referees. Take responsibility for your teams’ performance.
