Ireland 8, Norway 2 - Recap

Prediction: 4-4 Tie

This was ugly and embarassing. Ireland scored early and often and Norway couldn't get it together at the back to defend set pieces. It looked like Norway would give up 15 minutes in, but at least we semi kept it together and put in an effort in the second half.

The positives to take away for the quarterfinals - besides set pieces, the defense and mid didn't play too bad. Kept good shape and kept containment. When playoffs roll around it'll be all about focus and a good kick in the ass like that is the best reminder that you can never relax against very good teams. Also, when Norway finally started shooting, plenty of good chances resulted in the second half.

That's the most I'm going to dwell on that game. Its best for all Norway players and fans to forget it and move on because there are more important things immediately ahead. Props to Ireland, they're a powerhouse.

Good effort Braden, and the rest of Norway. Can't wait to see all the ROI bandwagon jumpers try to rub it in your face. Kind of funny how childish people can get over a tournament that doesn't matter..

Norway got punished. Everyone knew they arn't a good team. They won't make it past the next round. Lucky you guys only lost 8-2 when ROI players weren't really trying out there.

Try not to talk it up next year and you won't get destroyed. ROI is an elite team which will kill every team in this useless tournament.

lets see ireland put up a team with regina players.props to all the teams that have only in the city players.we cannot forget that we players form regina supply this tournament, with us,"not soo good players",there wouldn't be a wcp tournament.

Doesn't matter?! DOESN'T MATTER?! WHY, I never. I mean...can you even...jeez. Doesn't matter?!

IT MATTERS TO ME, YOU INSENSITIVE CLOD.

What do you gain out of winning this tournament, Anon 11:16? Oh, that's right. Free registration for the same tournament next year. Where does this tournament take you next if you win? Oh, that's right, back to regular men's/women's/youth leagues. After that? Back to this tournament.

In terms of where this tournament takes the players, it means nothing, is what I was getting at. The whole point is people get worked up over a tournament that does not gain you anything other than bragging rights (if you can even call it that).

The reason why the tournament DOES matter, is because it's supposed to be about bringing the community together through football.

For the record - I'm all about the bragging rights. Winning the tournament (in any year) gives you the right to tell people about it. I don't think that can ever be overrated.

wish this was your 1st or 3rd game which would have made things very interesting had you lost earlier on, i hope next yr wcp plays these kind of games rite from the beginning, but fix yo defense and may be will win a game next round but highly doubt it

Anon 12:22: What do you get out of living? You go to school. then what? Oh, that's right. You work and have a family, but then what? Oh, that's right. You retire. Then what? Oh, that's right. You die.

So what's the point of living? You go back to dust anyway. There's no point.

Anyway, you're being an asshole. Everyone who plays soccer in Regina loves this tournament, and it's pretty exciting stuff. You meet new people, watch your friends play, and hang out with people you don't always get to. You get to be a part of team in front of big crowds. Your family comes out to watch, you help grow the game of soccer in Regina, and you can even show off your skills if you have any.

Maybe you should post the list of things we can get worked up about. That would help us all out. The federal election? People who don't eat bread crusts? Spiders?

Maybe a way to restrict teams like Ireland, they could institute some sort of import rule... like the CFL uses for bringing in American players.
Teams can still go out and steal loads of Saskatoon players, but, the rule would be you cannot have more saskatoon players than regina players. So Ireland can still go out and get as many good saskatoon guys as possible... but no more than 11, as the roster max is 23... that way collins will be forced to to try to recruit from regina, which is now going to be fairly tough to do, as most of the better players in regina have already planted roots with other teams.

I dont know what the Big Deal is?? If ROI wants to recruit players from out of town, they should be allowed to. Any team can get players from anywhere if they want. Coming from a guy who plays on N.Ireland and I will be the 1st to say that this is our worst year ever, our team will still enter in the tournament next year. In the last 3 years we have made it to the quarters 1 time, last year just barely missed getting in, and this year played "not so good"....just means we have stuff to work on and some players to move around for next year. Kudo's to ROI for only loosing 2 games in last few years (1 to us--sorry but had to throw that in there).....I have played against alot of the ROI players and they are a good team...catch them on a bad day and anything can happen......Great tournament so far and i just hope we can show up and play a good game against Sudan tonight....

a lot of people are just jealous that ROI is a talented team, again go out there and start looking for players, its not hard

i say France is talented team in the tournament, we at France we don't like showing off,but when it comes to business handling, you have to trust us. ES are you ready to be toasted?

Anonymous said...

Dear anonymous France Idiot;

You claim not to show off? Yet you roasting of ES contradicts that? ROI has more talent then France hands down.

Come on obviously that is not an individual on France the grammar and English is very poor. It is just someone that wants to stir the pot and make France look over confident. El Salvador is a good team with a lot of talent the game will not be easy at all.

Norway was just saving themselves for the quarter finals. thats why they let ireland beat them. if they wanted they could have come back, but they didn't want to waste their energy. ireland is going to be over confident now and someone is going to crush them. just wait and see.

Norway if u were in any other group you wouldnt have gotten out.. Your lucky.. braden whats ur excuse.. you say winning gives u braggin rights but you havent won it in years.. so for nxt year after u lose out this year, maybe take it easy on the hype of your average at best team..

In a do or die situation Norway would have given ROI a much better game. Norway is a team that plays better when the all the chips are on the line. They did not play anywhere close to their best game against ROI because they didn't have to. They were already in the quarter-finals. Everyone will see the real team come Wednesday night!
