Tough for Laos to Repeat in WCP Cup 2011

Rumour going around that I believe to be true is that Laos will be missing some important players for the 2011 WCP Cup tournament. Josh Northey, Chad Anthony and Robbie Mintenko will likely be out for this year's tournament, although I can't say 100% for sure.

Josh Northey and Chad Anthony are apparently both injured and will not be healed up enough in time for games. Both players would be huge assets to any team and their absence will be a major blow to the Laos roster.

Also possibly out is Robbie Mintenko because of university classes. I'm not sure if he'll manage to make it work or not, but if he doesn't then Laos' hard-tackling presence in midfield will become merely a tackling presence.

Laos' chances to repeat just went way down.

To be honest, that one was a stretch. I heard it and couldn't remember if he played in 2010 or not. My bad.

Josh Northey is a huge loss for Laos. may have been the piece of the puzzle that got them over the top.... with him gone, i agree, laos' chance of a repeat isn't as likely.

they will still be strong but will rely a bit more on luck this year. they have picked up jayce neufeld and brandon holmes both who will help them alot. i agree not the team they were last year but they do have a lot of good players from the team that won them the champinoship last year.

Not sure if you want to seperate this out into it's own thread, but this year at the opening ceremonies the national anthem will be sung by a little bit of a bigger 'celeb'. Double-platinum artist, 3 time Juno Award nominee, MOBADASS frontman Earl Pereira (Co-founder of Wide Mouth Mason). Top notch performer for a top notch tournament!

-------------

As a double-platinum artist and 3-time JUNO nominee, MOBADASS frontman Earl Pereira (co-founder of Wide Mouth Mason) has established himself as one of the most entertaining performers in the country. Pereira has shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, Nelly Furtado, Alanis Morissette, AC/DC and more. With demand for MOBADASS continuing to grow, Pereira made the decision to leave Wide Mouth Mason in 2010 to focus solely on his increasingly popular project. MOBADASS Performed over 150 shows in 2009/2010 including the 2010 Winter Olympics, 2010 Grey Cup, and National television performances on TSN, CTV, SHAW, GLOBAL, and CBC. In 2011, MOBADASS will release their second studio recording, Starcity Shakedown, the follow up to their acclaimed debut release, Island Rock. for more infor on MOBADASS check out www.mobadass.ca

Anon 5:22 - What money? How much is Earl getting to do this? If you're going to make a slanderous remark like that you better have facts to back it up! Some musicians appreciate the opportunity to get their names mentioned and to perform infront of 1,000 plus people for the chance to promote an album or just to give back. Something good comes along to help enhance this tournament (even if it's a small thing like the National Anthem) and some clown like you has to find some negative lie to throw out there.

PS: Braden, I know you're coming under some flack about stuff on this site, but that remark should be deleted...it couldn't be further from the truth...if you delete that one feel free to delete this rebuttle along with it.

MOBADASS is in Regina anyways performing at McNallys on April 1st and 2nd, so im assuming someone has asked him kindly to participate in the tournament in exchange for a free promotional opportunity.

ANON 8:56 For the record, I have never complained about fees going up... If you want to know who I am, I'm the guy that made the arrangements and booked Earl to do this. Feel free to make whatever false ignorant assumptions you'd like. Unfortunately there will always be guys like you that drag events like this down with posts like yours.

Goose: Very insightfull assumption. At least someone on here understands that not everything in life costs money...sometimes there can be tangible trade off for something both parties are interested in.

That is definitely going to hurt, but they have a strong team. I think they will still do well, but no matter if they had those players or not it is always hard for teams to take the cup back to back. Republic of Ireland has only managed to do that once.
