Thanks for showing up

Dear El Salvador, Jamaica, Afghanistan and Scotland,

Thanks for showing up and better luck next year! Don't hang your heads, Norway and Germany were the better teams and deserved to advance. My advice:

El Salvador - Get a TEAM together that doesn't put superstars above everyone else on your bench. Kind of tough to get a big victory against Jamaica when half your players are seeing the field for the first time all tournament. Also, don't think you've advanced just because you managed three wins in five games.

Jamaica - Be better prepared to face the spotlight. Understandably some of your young players were "deer in the headlights" for your first two games. Ultimately your teams' downfall because the final three were impressive. Keep the squad together and the outlook is positive for 2011.

Afghanistan - I liked the speed and I liked the intensity. I really didn't like the attitude though. Get that fixed and you might have a chance next year. To be fair, Group B was an extremely tough group to land in for your first year. Any other group and you likely get at least one more win, possibly two.

Scotland - I feel bad for you guys because of how the +/- factor affected some of your later games. The scores against weren't really a reflection of your team just the circumstances. I also feel bad because you lost a ton of players from 2009. Such is the nature of the tournament though - I hope you get some good recruits for next year.

C'mon with the language, its completely unnecessary. And again, lets cut out the personal attacks and keep everything soccer and game related. Nobody wants to read anything degrading that's posted by an anonymous commenter. Its cheap and unfair

well, here's norways chance to prove they are the top team they say they are. Doesn't get much tougher than france. good luck. you will need it.

To be fair; you are setting yourself up for a bashing.
You have talked smack all WCP on your blog, wether it was solely soccer smack; you did smack talk alot.
Norway and Germany went through, yet get either Germany and Norway to play without their top 5 players and I highly doubt they would they have drawn Jamaica.
ES was placed in a tight situation after the loss to Norway due to other committements with Bryce Chapman.
Norway spoke some smack which is acceptable, but there's no excuse for Germany's smack talking and how low they sunk.

I have no problem with you bashing team Norway - that's fair game and I encourage it. I'm talking about personal, non-soccer related attacks - those can be left out. I've said that about all comments like that

No teams would not be good without their top 5 players. Thats just a ridiculous comment. Smack talk is fine and always interesting. Norway tried to get under our skin and it back fired. But hey you can't win them all. How low did Germany sink? And how did they get there? We put ourselves in a must win situation and pulled it off. Props to the teams in this group it got pretty interesting.

See you in the playoffs.
Go Germany!

Ryan I dont agree with everything you say but I have to laugh and agree with the last posting. I think it would be fair to add that if Norway and Germany also pulled their keepers and put the defenders as strikers... they might lose every game. What a dumb comment. To be charitable.. Maybe the poster meant that the rest of the team minus the 5 best were better than Norway or Germany minus the 5 best... but really how the hell would you know? Nobody benches their best players in a game that matters and every game in this pool mattered. El Salvador and Jamaca are out because they did not win 4 games... Simple and they can only blame themselves.

I just want to say.. the ugliest sounding hit of the tournament occurred in the last Jamaca game when two Jamacan players collided. I did not think that kid would get up again. I see he continued later in the game so I hope there was no permanent damage. It sounded real nasty.

To the person who posted at 10:10 am, were you half crying when you posted that? You are clearly on ES and are one of the worst losers I have seen. Suck it up. Sometimes teams go through with very few wins while other times all it takes is one loss to knock you out. That's the nature of this tournament. Maybe you will get an easier group next year...

Playmaker, thanks for keeping this blog up to date and keeping us all informed where the WCP home page and blog have failed.

Yeah, good for Peters for getting up. He's one of Jamaica's best players. The guy who ran into him is the same guy who rammed into Reis in the Norway game and fractured his hand or whatever the exact injury was. He needs to be more careful. Too reckless with his size
