Norway in the Playoffs!

Thank you Jamaica! That's what every Norway player said last night after Jamaica tied El Salvador 2-2. The final 5 minutes of that game were incredible and could have swung Group B any which way, but the final result was really only good news for one team - Norway (and kind of for Germany too). Norway clinched at least second position and will advance to Wednesday's playoff round.

Who saw this happening at the beginning of the tournament? I did. And so did the rest of the Norwegian team, many of who have been playing together for several years. We knew it wouldn't be easy, but there was no doubt that we were the superior team of our group. El Salvador had the swagger, we had a championship trophy - doesn't matter if it happened three years ago.

The intrigue for who else will make the playoffs comes down to tonight's game against Germany. If Germany wins it will claim first place in the group with Norway getting second. If the game is a tie or if Norway wins, then Norway gets first place and El Salvador will claim second.

All of the pressure is on Germany - step up for glory or hang their heads and exit the tournament knowing they couldn't bring it when it mattered.

For my part, I want to crush Germany. I like their players, but this is a great opportunity for Norway to show that even when the game is meaningless we still can't be stopped by lesser teams. Stay tuned for a preview later today.

I think you forgot to mentioned that El Salvador didn't have all their Saskatoon players in the match against Jamaica.

Why does that need to be mentioned? Norway beat them when they had all of their Saskatoon players. Didn't make much of a difference. Jamaica didn't have Korthius - it evened out.

If a team has to rely on all their import players in order to be victorious, they're not really much of a team.

Teams like El Salvador and ROI that continually play their "star" players all game leaving the rest of the team on the bench are not a team, they are a group of individuals. As can be proven with the tie yesterday, you need to be able to play with whoever takes the field!

Actually, I think you may have the tie wrong. If Norway and Germany tie... it will by Norway 1st and Germany 2nd. The only way El Salvador advances is if Germany Loses.

Playmaker said...

Nope. If Germany ties then their record is 3-1-1 which is the same as El Salvador's. The first tie-breaker is head-to-head result and El Salvador laid a beat-down on Germany in that game. El Salvador would advance.

5-3 isn't really a beat-down

I like this Blog. It gets updated regularly and makes me laugh. Braden i know you are a writer but a comedian writer too. Impressive! Everything you say on here is ridiculous. Norway is good but they aren't anything exceptional. You beat Scotland 4-3. The youth boys Scotland team could beat their mens team, Germany humiliated Scotland 12-1. I think Germany has a very real chance to win, even crush Norway tonight. Go Germany!!!

on a side note, lets see how many people think that alvaro campos is the least like player/person at this tournament. i see this guy strutting around like he's all that thinking everyone just loves him when in fact i don't think anyone has any respect what so ever for the guy. to start off, he thinks he's quite the ladies man, but in the real world he's one of the least attractive people i have seen. nice ears buddy. It's comical watching him talk to girls. if you can call it talking... i prefer to use the word creeping. Then you get this guy on the soccer field and he tries to be a skiller like the rest of ES midfield, but all he can really do is lunge in dangerously for tackles and try to hurt people while looking like a retard. Give it up. do something useful out there. in conclusion, i would like to say that germany better win today, because i would really appreciate not having to see alvaro campos in regina any longer.

Yeah he is a big D-Bag.. BOOM ROASTED

laugh out loud

Wow... somebody's upset Alvaro banged their girlfriend!

Anonymous said...

Any girl that would bang alvaro is either blind or has a severe retardation

All right, let's cut out the personal attacks. Seriously. If you want to write something about ability like the original comment then fine - leave the off-field stuff out of it.

Germany has one goal the rest of the tourny ... humiliate norway .. they are a good team dont get me wrong .. but i think their ego is bigger than their skill.. Go Germany.

Bahah boom roasted... I will take it as a compliment as being the least liked player in Regina ... my talent and technical ability are brutal..... what ever you say.. I could really care less about soccer to be honest.. I'm irrelevant to it...
I actually find it funny when I get beaked... and as for the "leg breaking" tackles.. what can ya do... you take a risk flying in... either you get the ball or you don't... If you miss you take a chance of getting sent off... it is what it is... you'd know that if you ever got a chance to play outside of Sask...

But hey soccer to some of us isn't a big deal.. we aren't in Regina trying to live a dream that will never occur.. I'm not even going to bother saying anything about my soccer skill.. as I could care less..

Creepy.. really.. I guess I have to step up my game as I aspire to be SUPER creepy.. being a creepy is weak sauce... and yea I am dousche bag... what of it? I'm glad you noticed... and lastly, took you long enough to grow balls and beak me behind a computer screen... so upset that you guys hate my ears.. I thought they were my best feature.. oh well... least liked... most hideous.. dang baby.. I can't go wrong haha

Your ever hated D-Bag

Thank you Alvaro, that was a good response and you got your say. Let's consider it closed. I really don't want any more bashing on here. Its even

Yea Braden I respect that, I wasn't going to say anything; but I just got a whole paragraph of compliments dedicated to me that I had show love. I was blushing I was that flattered.

and now I am done.

XOXO
Alvaro

Fair enough. No worries

congrats norway making playoffs. did not see that coming

I wish ES had had their best players and I wish Korthius had been there. It was however still a very exciting game and I'm glad germany has still has a (slim) chance

Anonymous said...

As an ES fan i am disgusted to hear a team throwing the game away just to knock us out of the playoff picture, its real "classy" of you guys, thanks a lot assh_les.

Anonymous said...

Its a shame for the fans that ES cares more about partying then they do about their fans and the game.
Its a shame for the tournament that a team would throw a game, and what is worse is having a collection of scumbags like Germany benefit.
Germany is full of talentless skids who hype themselves to the roof, sadly Germany does not have one player that can actually play.
Shame for the fans and the tournament to have Germany Laos match, as ideally a Laos ES game would be the most exciting match to watch.

its a shame that people like you are living ..

incredible germany, make it through the group with a bunch of guys that can't play. they must be pretty bad coming through tops in the group.

Anonymous said...

So many sore losers out there...

Anonymous said...

Laos ES would have been a great match. Maybe next year.

Anonymous said...

who is alvaro and why does norway suck?

Anonymous said...

Who is alvero.... no idea and couldn't care less. To solo one person out a tournament for praise or ridicule is crazy. In a tournament like this... one player does not a team make or break. Norway suck... no way. Are Norway as good as they were a few years ago... no way. Germany a bunch of hacks... hard to make that claim real when they took the pool.

My guess... a lot of sore losers.

Cheer up... you can still watch talented exiting soccer and it gives you more time to practice for next year.

Let's be real, WCP is not talented soccer. Exciting soccer yes.
Take one player off the field for both teams, blow outs would happen more often. Play 6 players and a goalie and then you will see the talent level be lifted. The rules are made to eliminate blow outs due to the huge gap of talent levels.

At least learn to spell the kids name if your going to act like you don't know him. Enough said about that.

Germany are on high horses now, but they had a lot of breaks go their way.
