Germany Preview - Monday 8 p.m.

Get ready for the excuses. "They got lucky", "We couldn't finish our chances", "The referee gave them all the calls", "They're a dirty team with a bunch of hacks." That's going to be Germany tonight after Norway takes it to them. It's a must-win scenario for Germany. If they get anything less than a victory they're out - if they win, they're first place.

Here's what I think will happen: Germany will come out 100 miles an hour, have a ton of early pressure with lots of chances - and fail to score a goal. Norway will get one though and it will be a crazy counter-attack where the Germany defense was too far pushed up the field to get back in time. Then Norway will score another as Germany is shell-shocked. 2-0 at half.

Germany gets an early second-half goal to lift their hopes, but those hopes are ultimately crushed when Norway scores the clincher - again off the counter-attack because Germany's defense pushes up too much. 3-1 final like I predicted last week. Take a look at my "Playoff Speculation" column to find out in more depth why this will be the result. Its fascinating.

See everyone in the playoffs, regardless of how this ultimately breaks down.

What will Norway's excuses be when they lose? Or will they just pretend like it was no big deal(secretly crying inside) cause they are through either way?

Playmaker said...

We're through either way. This will be a statement game. If we lose - not good. But yeah, really no big deal overall

this will be a fairy tale ending for Germany.. no doubt in my mind ..

The tournament is not the same without ES in the playoffs. Too bad...

Anonymous said...

The tournament is great without ES in. They were so sure they were the best team. Couldn't step up when it counted though. If they don't make it its because they don't deserve it

this is gonna be great when germany losses. i like the excuses they have, so good

Anonymous said...

they won't make it. Norway will rest their players, Germany will go for it - not really throwing the game, but darn close to it. ES is out, again, too bad...

Anonymous said...

Resting players? Really. Hmm.. sounds like an excuse. ES put themselves in the position that they are now but throwing a game shows exactly what Regina soccer stands for. Pure mediocraty at best.

The only players getting rest are Cooper, Dufour and Slinn and that's because they're all hurt. We don't have a big enough bench to rest players and everyone plays equal time anyways. We don't sit players or monitor their playing time - ever. We have no coach, this is a team in the truest sense of the word. I'd rather play Laos than France anyways. we'll take first place

We haven't made one excuse. We are going out there to win tonight. If we lose, which we wont, yeah we'll be upset but we wont make one excuse. We put ourselves in this position and we'll get ourselves out of it in a convincing manner. Good Luck Norway!

The only person making excuses for Germany is Playmaker aka Braden. "Get ready for the excuses. "They got lucky", "We couldn't finish our chances", "The referee gave them all the calls", "They're a dirty team with a bunch of hacks."

3-1 may be a bit off. Norway can really only play defensive soccer and score on the counter attack, but props to them as it works magic for them and that's why they are through. But holding Germany to only 1 goal is very unlikely with the goal scorers they have. Germany plays and all or nothing attack with the mindset of who needs to play defensive if you can score 12 goals...
In the end, the game is meaningless for norway, and germany will want it more. Final score : Norway 3 - Germany 6.
suck it braden

Norway has no pressure on them at all in this game, just like the other ones against the good teams in this pool. these guys love being under-rated and play so well when no one expects them to win.

I think they are gonna beat Germany just so they have a chance at another game against shitty ES.

I dont think they will throw this game, too much pride on the line.

Someone should commend the Jamaican goalkeeper, Chomos!! That was the most outstanding performance i've ever seen from a keeper. He kept his team in and has done so in the past. He's incredible

Anonymous said...

Sucks Jamaica wasted their first two games, had they played Norway again they would have been more competitive.

And yes, Chomos still has it. Best keeper in the tourney hands down....

Anonymous said...

well i wouldnt say hands down, his biggest saves were off people trying to chip him. they also hit a bunch of crossbars... and jamaica didn't win. Would have been more impressive had they won.

Norway should try and win this one as laos would be a easier victim for them than france. But it should be a exicting game.

tonight was the best night of the tournament in my opinon, Norway lost thnx to Braden getting owned and now have to face France which they will lose 5-0 and ES is out now.

Anonymous said...

wow did the norway goalie, give the game away, i can see how the comments about giving the game away werent that wrong

As a German I have an 'excuse' why we 'won' the game. The main issue is that most players on Norway don't have the stones to step up in big games. When the going gets tough - they're nowhere to be found in the spotlight. On a further note Norway can lick balls and enjoy loosing to France.

Really classy Germany. You guys are all little punk bitches who talk a mean game but when it comes down to it you are complete garbage.
Norway is through and may not have the best team but they won games; how did you guys fair against a bunch of hung over drunks like ES? They beat you guys easily in their hungover state; imagine if those idiots didn't drink every single night.
Props to Germany, the biggest joke of the WCP; stones?! Stones meaning beaking a guy over the computer; well done Germany keep embarrassing yourself

sore loser right there..

yeah it was pretty embarassing only beating norway 7-4. pretty embarassing only winning 12-1 against scotland. whatever, we came through in first, i'm embarassed... but i don't think we could have placed any better, right?
good comment.

I think this is the biggest rivalry in the wcp cup now, I will now always watch norway play aganist germany

Germany made Norway their bitches. If anyone says Norway didnt try or they threw the game your retarded. Its not really a surprise that its takin Braden this long to post the results and excuses. Either way the playoffs should be pretty good. Go Germany!

Anonymous said...

well theres no point of him posting a new blog topic because there done now, france will destroy them

I'm predicting a win for Laos in the next round. It shouldn't be hard for them to defend against Germany's shooters. I'm basing this on the game against Jamaica.

Anonymous said...

Ha ha you mean when Jamaica couldnt shut us down? That would make it a German victory

Summary of game Norway verses Germany. Germany came out guns blazing as Braden predicted. However unlike the predictions... they scored and they scored a lot. 4 goals in about 6 min. After that, Germany fell victim to their success and forgot to play. They played cute with the ball in the center and did not shoot. Norway, to their credit came close to making it even, which eventually woke the Germans back up and they started firing the guns again with predicable results. Final 7 to 4.

Meet you in the finals if you can get there.

Anonymous said...

ok...well if you knew germany were goin to come out blazing guns shouldnt your defenders/midfielders close them down as soon they put there heads down to shoot?

Matt Whittingham said...

Too bad I didn't play. haha

Anonymous said...

Well done Germany, i'm not sure how Norway even made it in the playoffs. Like they say, crazy things happen. Germany got the draw they wanted against a soft Laos team. Lets go Germany

I thought Jamaica did pretty well in stopping Germany. Germany is known for scoring many goals. If it wasn't for that, they wouldn't survive in this tournament. I'm saying Jamaica did well because in the game, Germany's first goal came from a really good shot from far out. Everyone was covered at that moment, its just that the guy who scored hit the ball into the bottom corner brilliantly. The second goal was a disgusting own goal scored by the Jamaican defender. The third goal came from a poorly defended corner kick that would have been easily stopped if the defenders actually manned up.

Germany vs Laos will be an exciting game for sure. I know Laos's kepper is better than Norway's but as long as we keep scoring it will be hard to beat us. Good Luck to all the teams in playoffs this year.

FYI. A few of the players from ES behave as expected, like the young 20 somethings. The vast majority, go home or to their jobs and do not part-take in the post-game celebrations. Do not generalize. I think we all know who the party animals are - but they shouldn't be blamed or singled out either. They are just doing like the Irish, Germans, Scottish, French party animals do. Every team has their merry lot.

Deadmoney said...

but the thing is they are the leaders/good players on the team. you gotta know your limitiations and in this situation ES will hopefully learn from this lesson and move on.

I think alot of people forget the main reason why some of the people do participate in the tournament.
It's to have fun and enjoy the experience. Its to have a break from other soccer where you may have Bryce Chapman or another coach demanding too much and taking the fun away from the game.
For the majority of the people playing, this tournament is the best soccer you may ever play but that isn't the case for some guys.

So what if some of the ES guys, or Irish guys go hard and drink and enjoy the event. It should be an enjoyeable time, especially when your in your early 20's.
Most of those guys that are 'party animals' have just spent the previous 9 months dedicating themselves to fitness, training and CIS matches; that a break from all that goes a long way.
It sad how everyone is so judgemental and puts everything under a microscope; yet it is what it is.

Some of these people you see, you see them two weekends out of a yearr. You know nothing about them, yet your quick to draw conclusions and judge. You are quick to group all of ES are drunks, and that shows no respect for those guys that don't go out.

Anonymous said...

No worries El Salvador - I understand where you're coming from. Norway players enjoy a drink every now and then too and last weekend was the perfect opportunity for that. Its part of the fun to play a little hung over and it adds to the challenge. If the fans are mad, who cares? Its what this tournament is all about.

Jamaca may have stopped Germany from running up the score but to claim they shut Germany down is a bit of a stretch. Jamaca's biggest problem in that game and in other games I watched is they rely on Kevin too much. No doubt ... give him the ball and he is deadly... only problem is everyone knows you are going to give him the ball so any successful team guards him well and shuts him down. Jamaca needs to make other plays and use the strength of the rest of the team more. This will also make Kevin more effective as he will be less guarded.

Kirk, I don't really take into consideration anything you say because for the past few years you have been a rock bottom mess and just because you cleaned your act up for this years tourney doesn't mean much.
Germany, you guys just calm down now, in a good way. Just because you guys have been scoring machines the past week doesn't mean you have it for the next game(s). Laos has got speed and a good keeper, you be ready! And any game between Germany and Norway in the future will be a good one, Noway will play at their level, which they did not on Monday.
As for ES, yes they party....so do all the other teams. Let them enjoy the tourney just as much as everyone else does.
As for the playoffs, I'm excited. All games will be good as all the teams that made it through are good teams with talent. Doesn't matter if Germany has been scoring lots of goals, or if ROI has always been a good team...anything can happen, especially when all the teams are contenders. Should be a great week of soccer.

germany has too much confidence. you guys are going to get raped by laos. They have something to prove and your one good defender (scott) cant stop all their attacking options.

I like you guys and I hope you win but we just played awful and thats why you beat us with some bad goals.
good luck

stefan
